Gabala tour is a full day trip and starts at 9 am. In this tour, you will see one of the most ancient and beautiful cities in Azerbaijan –Gabala, which was the capital of Caucasian Albania for 600 years. Archeological evidence indicates that the city functioned as the capital of Caucasian Albania as early as the 4th century BC. Gabala city locates on the northwest side of Azerbaijan and is considered one of the rainy cities of the country. The city is considered one of the top tourist destinations sights of the country and every year attracts a lot of guests from different countries. Gabala situates about 210 km in distance from Baku and it takes 3-3.5 hours to reach there by car. This tour is perfect for travelers who tend to discover the beauty of the Caucasian mountains, take a fresh mountain air, and explore the beauty of nature. During this tour, besides the Gabala city, you will also have a chance to visit some historical places on the way (Juma Mosque and Diri Baba mausoleum) which are located in Shamakhi city.
Diri Baba Mausoleum, Maraza Village
The first stop of the Gabala Tour will be Maraza village. There You will visit Diri Baba mausoleum (mausoleum-mosque of the 15th century called Diri-Baba, located across from the old cemetery). The architecture of this mausoleum harmonically fits into the picturesque surroundings of the building – view against the background of rocks and greenery of trees. The building of the mausoleum is a masterpiece of the architectural school of Shirvan. It is considered one of the creations of the arts of ancient masters. The monument is protected by the government.
Juma Mosque, Shamaxi
Juma Mosque of Shamakhi or Friday Mosque of Shamakhi is a mosque in the city of Shamakhi, Azerbaijan. The construction date of the mosque is dated from the governance period of Caliphate’s vicar in the Caucasus and Dagestan, Arabic commander Maslam ibn Abd-al Melik, brother of Umayyad caliph Vail I (705-715), by whom Shamakhi was chosen as the residence. In these years Arab governors, strengthening towers of this ancient city with the rich cultural heritage, began the construction of new structures in its territory. Arabs attached great importance to Shamakhi, which is visible from the great architectural appearance of the Friday Mosque.
Nohurgol Lake, Gabala
Eye-catching Lake Nohur with the magnificent view of the Caucasus Mountains, fresh air, and water is one of the most picturesque places of Gabala. The visitors are amazed by the beauty of Lake Nohur. The quiet atmosphere and bird sounds create an ideal relaxation environment to escape from the noise of the city. Although swimming in the lake is prohibited (the lake is also used as a reservoir and provides drinking water for Gabala and surrounding regions), it is a perfect place for fishing. And You can also take a boat and catamaran ride and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Stop at Gabala Forest
On the way back to Baku we will have a stop at Gabala forest to rest for a while and so you can get fresh mountain air and take tea, coffee, or just to try Azeri local fast food prepared on the road by local women.
Tufandag Winter & Summer Resort
The last point of our Gabala Tour will be the Tufandag ski resort– Whether for skiing or just for memorable summer views of the Alpine scenery behind Gabala, jump aboard the Tufandag network of four cable cars. There you can try skiing, the cable car that takes you from down to the top of the mountain to see the spectacular beauty of the mountain and city of this region. At the end of the Gabala tour, you will be transferred to Baku and dropped off at the hotel.
